The Spark Sessions are a key part of the Minor Works Program, designed to turn ideas into actionable projects. Their goal is to help neighbours kick-start their ideas, practice effective project planning, and build a network of skilled community members who are eager to contribute their expertise, enthusiasm, and time to advance both their own and others’ projects.
Spark Sessions are held at QT on Tuesday nights, from 7.30-9.00pm, and sometimes on a needs basis. They are facilitated by neighbours who are passionate about and skilled in project planning and design, and who would love to see more ideas come to fruition. If you are interested in learning how to facilitate Spark Sessions for other neighbours, we would love to hear from you!
What is a Spark Session?
Spark Sessions are 1.5-hour gatherings where people come together to turn ideas into actionable projects. Each session focuses on one pre-selected idea, allowing the group to pool their skills, resources, and insights to help plan that project. Sometimes those ideas will have been discussed at a Neighbourhood Soup Night, and sometimes they are a completely new idea brought in by a neighbour who is seeking support to move their project forward. Whether you’re contributing your expertise or bringing your own idea to the table, Spark Sessions offer a structured space for collaboration and project planning.
This collaborative process is designed to help both idea-makers and supporters build projects that benefit the community!
Who is it for?
Spark Sessions are for both project initiators and contributors. If you have an idea and would like a Spark Session dedicated to planning it, you’re encouraged to attend another session first to see how the process works. For contributors—those who enjoy lending their skills, connections, or expertise—this is a great opportunity to support your neighbours and help turn ideas into reality.
How to get involved?
To attend a Spark Session, you can register below. Each date will indicate which idea is being discussed. If you would like some more information about the idea before signing up for a session, feel free to reach out at hello@neighbourhoodnode.com.au. When signing up, you can indicate if you have an idea you would like to nominate for a future session.
