Spark Session a Success!

Thanks so much to everyone who joined the Meaningful Movies Spark Session. This update is for you — the people who helped shape a powerful idea into something we can take forward together.

What the session was about:

We came together to explore the idea of using film to start important conversations in our community, especially around justice, incarceration, and healing. The goal was simple: Can watching meaningful films together spark the kind of dialogue that leads to understanding and action?

What happened:

You brought your experiences, questions, and big ideas into the room—and it worked. The session had great energy, and there was a shared sense that this was something worth doing.

Here’s what we achieved together:

• A project team was formed on the spot.

• We agreed to start with a screening of Songs Inside, a powerful documentary about incarceration and community healing.
• We discussed what comes next: planning, promoting, and hosting the first event, and how we might keep it going.

What we noticed:

• The conversation flowed easily. People listened deeply, shared openly, and helped shape a shared idea without anyone taking over.
• There was a real mix of voices and experiences, and it helped build a strong foundation of trust.
• Several of you said you’d love to see this become an ongoing project — maybe even a local film club that brings people together around big social themes.
